Construction

OnTRoadBilBrd

Before the wind generators' blades started spinning, several stages of construction needed to be completed. See photos of project construction activity. The main phases of construction included:

-- Access Roads
-- Foundations
-- Towers
-- Nacelle
-- Blades
-- Buried Collector System
-- Substation

Safety was our number one priority. Consumers Energy and its contractors were committed to building Lake Winds Energy Park in the safest manner possible. There were no lost-time incidents or injuries involving the public or our construction employees during construction.

Construction on Lake Winds Energy Park began in the fall of 2011. Turbine site foundations and access roads were completed in the spring of 2012. Turbine components began arriving in Ludington in April 2012, followed by installation of the first turbine on May 29, 2012. All 56 turbines were installed by the end of August, 2012.
